Rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness, small blood vessels, swollen bumps and of course sensitivity typically on the face. Often, the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin are most involved. Dryness, oily skin and some itching are also some common symptoms. One may experience flare ups that can be caused from multiple things such as stress, fragrance and alcohol. There are various types of rosacea! If you can relate to some of these symptoms and have not been diagnosed you should make an appointment with one of our Dermatologist to get you on the right path! After seeing your dermatologist, stop on by our aesthetics department to get some great products or treatment recommendations!
Sensitized or sensitive skin can easily be confused with rosacea. Just because you have redness does not necessarily mean you have a skin disorder. In short, sensitized skin is something that can be corrected. Usually, this is from environmental factors or using the wrong skin care products for a prolonged period of time. Sensitive skin is a skin type. Both can be treated, calmed and managed through products and treatment.
When dealing with redness prone skin like rosacea or sensitive skin there are a few great treatments that can help reduce the appearance of redness, retexture in a nonabrasive manner and control breakouts. Another big plus is that all treatments make you feel better about yourself! Below are several we recommend:
IPL – A non-invasive treatment to minimize red, broken capillaries using intense pulsed light. May take multiple sessions to address concerns. This treatment can also address brown spots!
Laser Genesis – A non-ablative laser “facial”. This treatment stimulates collagen and elastin while treating redness prone skin. We recommend 6 sessions to start.
Mandelic Peels – A gentle peel that we like to call “The Red Carpet Peel”. Using mandelic acid, this treatment gently resurfaces the skin and targets redness. We recommend a peel series to help maintain. With this peel, you have a minimal downtime.
What kind of products are best?
Gentle cleansers are a great way to start your regimen when dealing with sensitivities. There are a wide variety of cleansers out there and it’s best to use products that are specifically for sensitive skin types. Using a product to help calm the skin will make a significant difference in your skin. A personal favorite is the ZO Skinhealth Gentle Cleanser. When it comes to at-home care, if the product is irritating you, immediately stop using it.
Rozatrol by ZO Skinhealth is another great at-home product to help target rosacea and sensitive skin. This product normalizes the skin by reducing surface oil. The exfoliating properties also help prevent the signs of aging. This is a great product to pair with any of our treatments.
We would love to help treat your skin and to see you glow!
