Are you sick of hiding your spider veins? Spider veins are flat clusters of tiny red or purple blood vessels visible through the skin, usually resembling a spiderweb. If you have these areas of tiny veins on your legs you may wish to consider sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy is the treatment of spider veins by injecting a solution into tiny veins to help lighten, shrink, or erase them completely. The injected solution destroys approximately 80% of abnormal veins over a few weeks, which then slowly diminish and are eliminated by your body over time. Typically, 3-5 treatments are needed for maximum effectiveness.
Schedule a consultation with Kim, our Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, who will talk to you about your needs, take a look at the areas in question, and help you determine the best treatment options to reach your goals.
When you come to your appointment, you will need to bring shorts to wear during treatment, and support (compression) stockings to wear immediately after. Do not shave or apply lotion on the treatment area prior to your appointment. The affected area will be cleaned, and small amounts of solution will be injected into tiny red/purple veins. One treatment session typically takes 45 minutes to an hour. Some people report a pinching or stinging sensation during application, and the area may be temporarily itchy with a small welt, much like a mosquito bite.
Once the injection is complete, you will put on your compression stockings, and can get back to your regular activities immediately, with minimal or no disruption. Wear your compression stockings for 2-3 days for best results, and walking is encouraged! However, we advise no swimming, weight lifting, or tanning for at least 72 hours. Along with the possibility of minor welts and itching, some people have also reported bruising, but after a short period of time, these symptoms clear up – along with the unsightly veins!
