Beauty Tips On How to Stay Hydrated
One way to check whether someone is dehydrated or not is to pinch the skin on the back of their hand. If the skin stays raised, they are dehydrated. If it snaps back, they’ve probably had their daily value of water. This shows how much water influences the skin.
The good news is that water keeps skin supple and dewy and contributes to its aesthetics. The bad news is that the body will route the water a person drinks to the vital organs in the body before it sends some to the skin. Because of this, it’s not only necessary to drink lots of water but to hydrate the skin externally.
Here are some tips to help skin stay hydrated:
DRINK LOTS OF WATER
Though it may not result in unblemished, radiant skin overnight, at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water every day flushes toxins out of the skin and the other organs.
MOISTURIZE
Moisturizing adds water topically to the skin and locks it in. It is especially important for people with dry, flaky skin. An interesting thing to note is that the outer layers of skin are about 10 percent water, and there’s little difference in the amounts found in oily and dry skin. The difference is that the lipids that help the skin hold on to water are lost faster in dry skin.
Moisturizers are usually oil-in-water or water-in-oil emulsions where tiny droplets of oil are found inside water or droplets of water are held inside oil. The water hydrates the skin while the oil keeps the water in.
Some people do not need to moisturizer as part of their skin care regimen. These folks have skin that is normal to oily. Other people only need to moisturize their skin in the winter, when the air is dry and cold. One way to find out whether the skin needs moisturizer is to wash the face. If the skin still feels tight after 10 minutes, a moisturizer may be called for.
Dermatologists advise that the best time to use a moisturizer is at night, and it should be put on right after the shower. This is because the pores are opened, and the moisturizer has an easier time penetrating the skin.
Another way to lock moisture into the skin is to use creams that have humectants. These chemicals attract and hold on to water. They can even pull in water from the air, and hold it on the very top layer of the skin. Two popular humectants are glycerin and hyaluronic acid, a type of sugar found naturally in the body.
