During this time while we are all social distancing we need to remember to keep doing our daily skin care regimens. What we do day in and day out can really have an impact on our skin health. It’s not just about coming in for your monthly peel, facial or microneedling treatments, although those are impactful too. Think about this analogy; let’s say you go to the dentist for your regular cleanings, you would never think about not brushing your teeth until you return again. Your in-office aesthetic treatments are like your dental cleanings, and brushing every day is like using your medical skin care on a routine basis. I was once told that when you start wearing your sunscreen on a daily basis your skin begins to heal and repair itself because it is not being insulted by free radicals and UV rays.
Also keep in mind that Botox and Dysport do not stimulate collagen. So when patients tell us that their Botox doesn’t seem to be working anymore, it may not be your Botox’s fault, it could be that you are not using your collagen stimulating products routinely. Neuromodulators paralyze the muscles temporarily. This allows your skin time to repair and fill in lines. If your collagen is severely depleted you may not get the relief you were hoping for. So don’t forget to keep up on your homework.
