Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is the surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen. If needed, this procedure also provides tightening of the abdominal muscles. Changes in abdominal contour over time are the result of weight gain/loss and pregnancy. While exercise can help, it cannot address skin redundancy and abdominal wall laxity. An incision is made low on the abdomen typically under the clothing line. The umbilicus (belly button) may or may not need to be moved depending on the amount of tissue removed. There are many types of tummy tucks depending on patient need; this will be discussed at your personal consultation with Dr. Pflueger. Many of our abdominoplasty patients are able to have this surgery without the use of surgical drains, which can be cumbersome in the postoperative period. This surgery can be done as outpatient although there is an opportunity for you to stay in the facility overnight if you desire. Heavy lifting and strenuous activity must be avoided in the post-operative period for approximately 4-6 weeks.
